Legal

NOTICE:

This page covers topics related to the Metawiki itself.

All of the legal stuff.

Note

In the interest of making this clear and legible, I'm keeping the legalese to a minimum. The contents of this page are subject to change in accordance with site growth, community needs, and/or other legal requirements.

Website

The Metawiki website was created by AlienSpaceBatAlienSpaceBat, a creative alias used as part of the Gimmy Creative Works creative umbrella. It - and all other ports/derivatives (present and/or future) made by ASB/GCW - are released under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 license. Please comply with this license, and give proper attributions to AlienSpaceBat and other contributors, when making derivative materials.

Code

The site uses a version of the Sigma-10 theme, maintained by the SCP Wiki Tech Team and licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0. It is modified to be dark-mode, and include the "wikibox" code from the SCPedia theme, by EstrellaYoshteEstrellaYoshte and used in compliance with CC-BY-SA 3.0.

Code used for the pseudo tag extensions is by R74R74 and RTa_subRTa_sub from The RTAS wiki, modified for Metawiki and used in compliance with CC-BY-SA 3.0.

Navbar codes are repurposed from the SCP Foundation, created by The AdministratorThe Administrator/FritzWillieFritzWillie and maintained by the SCP Wiki Tech Team, and are used in compliance with CC-BY-SA 3.0.

Infobox templates are based off of - and modified from - the one used in Esterberg (City) — Wikipedia from SCP -EN, created by Jasiu06Jasiu06/JerdenJerden/MontagueETCMontagueETC/RallistonRalliston/ZygardZygard under CC-BY-SA 3.0.

Other attributions will be added to this - and other relevant pages - as needed over time.

Images & Other Media

Metawiki uses in its articles a mixture of CC-BY-SA 3.0 compliant media, and - selectively - media that is covered under the Fair Use doctrine for the purposes of critique, commentary, education, and research.

While official SCP/WL wikis abide by a rule where all media must either be CC-BY-SA 3.0-compliant or not be included at all, Metawiki following this standard would severely hamper its goals, scope, and ability to provide proper historical, communal, and cultural contexts to its articles.

Instead, Metawiki will follow the guidelines below - inspired by Wikipedia's handlings - with regards to the inclusion of FUM (fair-use media):

  • Fair-use media will not be uploaded directly on any articles, nor will they be externally hotlinked. Instead, they will be hosted on dedicated pages under the "fum:" page category, with properly cited sources, ownership information, and legal disclaimers on display in the page's License Box.
  • Only relevant audio/video snippets, excerpts/paraphrases, and images of FUM will be included, with proper citations, ownership information, and disclaimers given in the License Box.
  • FUM that is sourced from data leaks, breaches, hacks, and other dubious or illegal means are not eligible for or permitted on Metawiki.
  • Out of respect for misters Katō Izumi and Yamamoto Keisuke, Untitled 2004 and variants of SCP-173 that are 1:1 recreations of the sculpture and/or its photograph will not be allowed to be visually depicted on Metawiki. Please see here for why.

Metawiki will comply with any/all non-frivolous1 cease-and-desist notices, DMCA requests, and/or other legal correspondence forwarded to AlienSpaceBatAlienSpaceBat, either via private message or their email listed on GCW's dedicated website. Any notices deemed provably and undeniably frivolous will be countered by any means necessary via the proper legal channels.

Reader/User Safety

Metawiki is COPPA-compliant and practices a zero-tolerance policy on harassment2, bigotry3, and other harmful behaviors/actions4. Registered users who are found to be under 18 years of age and/or in violation of the zero-tolerance policy will be removed with prejudice (and, if need be, reported to relevant authorities).

Additionally, Metawiki will take great care in minimizing reader harm (see the About page for more details).

Unless stated otherwise, all material on this wiki is under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 and/or compatible licenses. Some materials are used under US fair use doctrine, as discussed here.
